Board of Directors

Our board represents a cross-section of our community and has a passion for our organization and those we serve. The members work hard to ensure long-term sustainability of the organization and oversee that the funds raised directly affect those in need.

Officers

E. John Evans
Board President

John was born and raised in Red Oak, Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University with degrees in English, History and Speech/Theatre. His wife’s work transfer brought their family to Santa Rosa in September, 2000. They have three kids and four grandchildren, all living in California. John joined the Board in January of 2002 and has been a strong supporter of CPI ever since. All children and their families deserve a good life and CPI is there to help them achieve that.

Board

Gary Lucas
Business Owner

Gary Lucas initially joined the CPI Board over 10 years ago because he believed in the importance of the organization’s mission: to end child abuse and strengthen the health of children, parents, and families. Gary’s lived experience of growing up in a broken home with a physically abusive parent resulted in a childhood full of violence. Looking back, Gary believes that if CPI been available for him and his family his childhood may have been much different.

Gary was born in Santa Rosa and at the age of 17 he joined the Navy. Gary’s 4 years in the Navy brought him to see active duty in Vietnam and Japan where he helped deliver supplies to South Vietnam.

After his time in the Navy, Gary started his own business selling waterbeds, and then eventually took a job in the telecommunications industry. Gary has also been an active member in the Santa Rosa East West Rotary since 2001.

Serving on the CPI board has provided Gary with a way to contribute to the work of reducing violence in the home and ultimately in our society.

Just before starting medical school, Jeff married best friend Phyllis (an educator now retired). They have an amazing son and daughter, and 5 wonderful grandchildren. Roxy the labra-mutt rounds out the household.

Children’s health has always been Jeff’s main hobby—volunteering on boards of directors of child and family supporting non-profits, Sonoma County Health Services projects, and with Roseland Community Pediatrics. In addition he was a First 5 Sonoma County Commissioner and continues on the Sonoma County Maternal Child and Adolescent Health, Nurse Family Partnership, and iDo 26.2 (program encouraging children to exercise) Advisory Boards.
